2 Chainz 4 Mayor
Following entertainers-turned-pols Wyclef Jean, Killer Mike, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, 2 Chainz would like to add “politician” to his long list of identifiers. After debating Nancy Grace about the legalization of weed on HLN in 2015, the rapper’s fans called for him to look into a career in politics. Shockingly, he took the calls seriously. “I’m a musician, not a politician,” he told XXL two years ago. “I’m supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing. I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications.”
He did graduate from Alabama State University with a 4.0 GPA — which is better than some current politicians — so being the mayor of his home town is the natural next step, right?
Two years after attempting to ensure he had “the right qualifications,” running for mayor is still on the “It’s a Vibe” rapper’s mind. While on The Daily Show with comedian Trevor Noah, his 2015 talk of running came up. Chainz revealed that running for office is still a possibility, especially since the locals needed something new. “The mayor that was currently serving when I was thinking about taking the crown from him had been there for 20 or 30 years, so they were eager for a change,” he said.
The rapper probably would have run for the position already, but after checking the qualifications, he released that he couldn’t conform. “They had a few prerequisites that I couldn’t meet like staying in the same county and things like that because I didn’t want to stay in the same county still. I was about growth. It’s about growth and maturation. I feel like one day I could do something like that,” he confessed.
If or when he does decide to run for mayor of College Park, he already knows where he would begin. 2 Chainz vowed to “start with things that I’m true to” like legalizing medical marijuana and funding county sports programs to encourage kids to be outside more.
Life in Luxary
Mr. Two Chains may be much too busy to govern College Park though. His Viceland series Most Expenzsivest is going to keep him traveling all over. The show, which debuted yesterday (Oct. 15), features the southerner trying the world’s most expensive things, from food to alcohol to luxury cigars.
On the reality show’s first episode, the Pretty Girls Like Trap Music rapper ate a $10,000 steak dinner, a $1000 dollar donut, and smoked a $2000 cigar. From viewer’s responses, Most Expenzsivest is slated to be a hit. The concept of a rapper indulging in luxury items is simple enough to entertain a variety of people.
Leading the City
However, if the Georgia native plans to be a government leader, his body guard has to keep his hands off of photographers. Late last month, as 2 Chainz was on his way to perform at The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, a 64-year-old paparazzi got a little too close. According to reports by Page Six, the rapper’s 47-year-old body guard Rory Smith punched the photographer in the face so hard that he fell to the ground. After the incident, the body guard fled the scene, later being arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.
