Meek Mill has had one of the roughest 12 months of anyone in the music game, and it seems like his fan base decreases a little bit more every day. The Philly rapper has been the butt of jokes for the past year since he called out Drake on Twitter for using a ghostwriter in his music, leading to the two going back and forth on diss tracks. While Drake arguably won that war, Meek has had to deal with more disses from the hip hop community, social media memes, all while being on house arrest. It looks like Meek finally landed himself a win, but unfortunately, it wasn’t so easy to celebrate publicly.
Find out what win Meek finally landed.
Meek Mill won the award for Best Rap Album at the Billboard Music Awards
This past Sunday, Meek won the award for Best Rap Album for his Dreams Worth More Than Money project from last summer. This was the project that caused some controversy, as it triggered Meek to call out Drake for using a ghostwriter for his verse on “R.I.C.O.” off of the album. In order to win the award, Meek had to beat out Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-award winning To Pimp A Butterfly album, as well as Drake, himself, Future, and other top names.
Nicki Minaj even shared her congratulations for her man’s big win.
Nicki Minaj, Meek’s longtime girlfriend, congratulated her man on his big win, despite some of the criticism he was getting for it. She posted the album cover on her Instagram with the caption, “TOP.RAP.ALBUM Dreams Worth More Than Money.” On top of that, she even posted a sexy photo of herself in nothing but lingerie, captioning it “Congratulations,” as another way to publicly support her man.
