Today is a sad day for fans of the critically acclaimed HBO show, The Wire. Notorious drug lord, Melvin Williams — who served as the inspiration for the drug-laden show — died at the age of 73. Show creator, David Simon announced the death of Williams via Twitter.
RIP to Melvin "Little Melvin" Williams, 73, who made me begin to rethink the drug war. You ended it free, brother. pic.twitter.com/UjtshQAmzz

According to Mashable, Simon followed Williams’ life and featured him as part of a five-part series he orchestrated in 1987. Afterwards, Simon pieced together the timeless show The Wire, which lasted from 2002-2008.
As for Williams, he was released from prison in 1996 and left the life of crime alone. Rest in peace, Melvin Williams. Please make sure to SHARE with your friends.
