Back in early March, Drake made an announcement from center court at the Air Canada Centre before the beginning of a Toronto Raptors game on Drake Night. His announcement revealed that an album was in the works, and that it was dedicated to the city of Toronto.
No more hints were dropped until this Monday, April 17, when Drake posted two photos two his Instagram: One picturing a chain with a scorpion pendant, the other showing Drake’s back with the word “SCORPION” embroidered on a coach’s jacket, along with the words “JUNE TWENTY EIGHTEEN by DRAKE”. Both photos included the caption “📀 JUNE 2018”.
While Drake isn’t necessarily making any guarantees by posting these images, there are certainly many fans that would now be surprised if he doesn’t end up dropping an album titled Scorpio this coming June. Drake hasn’t dropped an album since 2016, when he released Views. He dropped More Life last year, then his Scary Hours EP earlier this year. With how fast he’s putting out work these days, it would only seem right that the album Drake referred to at the Raptors game will be Scorpion.
On top of the strong hints that Drake has dropped so far, his Wikipedia discography page already has Scorpion listed as a studio album to be released in June 2018. It’s not unlikely that Drake’s latest single, “Nice for What”, will be featured on the upcoming album, seeing as it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and dethroned “God’s Plan” after it’s 11th week in the #1 position. His Wikipedia discography page claims that it will be. Check out the music video below.
If you hadn’t already tried to guess the meaning behind the name of his (potentially) upcoming album, Drake’s birthday falls on October 24, making his zodiac sign Scorpio. Drake even has a song titled “A Scorpio’s Mind” on his first mixtape, Room for Improvement.
In other Drake news, Drizzy has recently opened up his own restaurant in Toronto. The restaurant, called Pick 6ix, is a collaboration between OVO and Montreal chef Antonio Park’s restaurant group, Eater Montreal reports. The restaurant is a cross between a casual restaurant, an upscale lounge, and a sports bar, and can seat about 300 overall when including the patio.
Stay tuned; we’ll keep you posted on everything Drake.
