Remy Ma had a busy 2017. She released a collaborative album with Fat Joe titled Plata O Plomo, dropped the notorious Nicki Minaj diss track “Shether”, won Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards, and signed a major label deal with Colombia Records ahead of the release of her upcoming album 7 Winters and 6 Summers.

Remy is taking all that momentum straight into 2018. Proof can be found on her Twitter page, where she posted a tweet on March 9 that linked out to a freestyle she did with Spotify’s Rap Caviar. For those that don’t know, Rap Caviar is a playlist available on Spotify that is curated by Spotify themselves in an attempt to provide users with the crème de la crème of today’s hip-hop. Peep the freestyle below.

The link posted in the tweet only shows the video to those with the Spotify app, but a clip can be viewed on the media attached to the tweet. Remy takes an aggressive approach to the freestyle, which should come as no surprise to those who are familiar with the Bronx MC.

Even though Remy took a bold approach to her Rap Caviar freestyle, ew.com reports that her upcoming album, named in reference to the length of the prison sentence she served, will have tracks that feature “soul-baring lyrics she wrote behind bars between 2008 and her 2014 release.” In her own words, Remy explains how she’s undaunted by showing a vulnerable side to her audience:

“I grew up in a neighborhood that made you feel like you always had to be tough — if you showed vulnerability, you could be attacked or it could be used against you… I have no problem opening up to my fans. After everything I went through, I was stripped. Literally: Clothes off, bend over, spread your cheeks, open your mouth, letters read, phone calls listened to.”

In case anyone was wondering, her upcoming album won’t have any more shade for Nicki Minaj. “That chapter’s been closed,” she said, referring to their past beef. “This album is about me and my life and my fans.” The album is expected to release early 2018, so keep your eyes peeled.
