Vic Mensa is a rapper from Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. He was originally in a band called Kids These Days during his time at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. During his time with the band, he had released his first solo EP, Straight Up, in 2010. After the band split up in 2013, Mensa wasted no time immersing himself in his solo career, releasing a mixtape the same year, titled, Innanetape.

After touring with the likes of J. Cole, Wale, and Danny Brown, Vic Mensa was included in the XXL Freshman Class of 2014. After releasing his debut singlem “Down on My Luck,” through the label Virgin EMI in 2014, Mensa signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2015. Through his new label, he released his debut album, The Autobiography, in 2017. Vic Mensa is also the founder of the hip-hop collective SAVEMONEY, comprised of Chicago artists such as Chance the Rapper.
