Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York

Red Café is a rapper from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He adopted the nickname Red from his father, who was also called Red. The “Café” section of his name came from him stamping bags of drugs he would sell with a trademark. He is originally from Guyana, and moved to New York around the age of 6.

He was incarcerated in 1992 for four years, which he says saved him. When he was released, he started taking rap more seriously. He joined the rap group Da Franchise with rappers Gravvy and Q Da Kid and released a series of mixtapes. After splitting with the group due to disagreements, Red signed with Arista Records in 2003. After than, Red signed with Capitol Records in conjunction with Mack 10's Hoo Bangin' imprint in 2005, then to Universal and Konvict Musik in 2006, and then finally to Interscope and Konvict Musik in 2007.

However, he did not release any albums during his time with any of the labels. But he did drop a collaboration album with DJ Envy in 2007 titled, The Co-op , through Envy’s label, Koch. Throughout his career, he has officially released 11 mixtapes and had an impressive amount of singles and features. He also had a part in the Biggie biopic, Notorious, where he played Primo, a battle rapper.
