10 Year Anniversary for Hustle & Flow

10 years ago,  an independent drama film directed by Craig Brewer and produced by John Singleton was release and aptly title, Hustle and Flow. The film was based off of a Memphis pimped with dreams of becoming a hip-hop artist played by Terrence Howard.  The film was in honor of Sun Records founder Sam Phillips

The film also starred Anthony Anderson, Taryn Manning and Taraji P. Henson. The film went on to win a Academy Award for best Original Song for Three 6 Mafia song, “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp.” Howard was also nominated for Best Actor and the film’s budget of $2.8 million received $23.6 mil in return. Cha-ching!
