Vince Staples is a really talented dude. The boy can spit. I mean, he’s obviously on this list of best rappers under 25 for a reason. No one can undermine his lyrical capabilities. But, the one thing that often overshadows his oozing potential and wordplay abilities is quite simply his mouth.
On several occasions, Vince has found himself always taking stabs at someone. There’s nothing wrong with conveying your opinion, but he just sounds condescending every time out. Remember when he attempted to take shots at CP3?
Shots at Chris Paul
“I’m tired of Chris Paul being on this pedestal like he’s ever won anything. Somebody show me a high school title, a spelling bee, something,” the Cali rapper said back in July. I hear you, but no need to get at the boy CP3 like that, man. He’s a Hall of Fame point guard who exudes leadership skills. His time to the chip is coming.
90’s Hip-Hop Overrated
Just recently, Staples attempted to question the Golden Age of the 90’s. Pretty bold and admirable, but for someone who is so enamored with hip-hop, you would have thought that he wouldn’t dare to walk along those trenches and appear so inept along the way.
“There’s not a 50 Cent in the ’90s, they didn’t even have a Kanye,” he said during his interview with TIME. “The first song I remember listening to was Lil Bow Wow’s ‘Bounce With Me.’ Bow Wow is one of my favorite rappers ever, you could never take that from me.” When N.O.R.E. attempted to get an explanation behind Vince’s madness, Vince clapped at him. “You a grown man, if you got a problem call Corey Blacksmith for a conversation I thought you was a super thug nigga.” Crazy man.
