Pusha T fans have been some of the most patient in hip hop, as they’ve had to wait over two years for their favorite beloved MC to release a new project. While many were expecting to finally hear the highly-anticipated King Push album, the G.O.O.D. Music President switched things up by released the prelude project, Darkest Before Dawn. While so many are still waiting on the awaited album, this prelude will have to tide them over.

“Leave your conscious at the door/We done hit the monsters in the floor,” is the opening line Pusha gives to his desperately impatient listeners. It’s a strong, suitable theme to hit his fans with, and even has production that could be a continuation of My Name Is My Name, reflective of his opening “Pain” track.

This track is clearly sentimental to Push, as he samples Biggie under the cryptic production. It was the first taste of Pusha’s dive back into the rap scene, and he certainly didn’t disappoint.
