Has The Heat Been Sucked Out Of The Miami Music Scene?

In the 2000’s Miami was crushing the rap scene. You had Rick Ross and his corpulent, larger than life raps carry the city on his back. You also had a voracious rhymer in the form of Ace Hood, who’s monstrous presence instilled a certain air of confidence in the city. Veterans like Trick Daddy and Trina also proved that they were indeed staples in the city by occasionally showcasing their skills on the mic. Now, in 2016, with Ross and Khaled appearing to be the only artists breathing life into the city, is the talent pool all but gone? After originally being a hotbed for the likes of Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, and more rappers, it appears the luster is gone.

Is Miami Really Losing Its Magic In The Rap Game?

Where Is Trick Daddy?

Trick Daddy first began his career in the late 90’s, and he masterfully developed hits like “Nann N*gga,” “Shut Up,” “I’m a Thug,” and “Let’s Go.” Nobody underestimated Trick’s ability to string together poignant singles. In the late 2000’s, he began doing features with DJ Khaled and then, he kind of fell off the map. He did pop up recently at Beyoncé’s Formation show in Miami, but other than that, Trick has been very quiet.

Where’s Trina?

Trina exemplified sex appeal to the fullest as a female rapper. Not only was she consistent on the mic, she simply oozed sexiness. She earned her stripes as a rapper when she appeared on “Nann N*gga,” which elevated her stock tremendously. She inked a deal with Trick’s Slip-N-Slide label and also one with Atlantic Records. She dropped five albums, with her last one dating back to 2010. For the past few years, Trina has been more active on the dating scene, than in the studio.
