You have to love it when an artist exudes a sense of altruism. The beauty of giving back is such a rarity in today’s world, because people’s egos tend to cloud their level of sincerity. Well, fortunately, that doesn’t apply to The Weeknd. One of the most prolific pop stars in today’s industry proved why he’s more than just an entertainer. The Weeknd donates $250,000 to Black Lives Matter
According to The Fader, this past Wednesday (Aug. 10) two sources close to The Weeknd revealed that he donated $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter movement. In case you’re not aware of the movement, it is “a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life.” With a branch based in Toronto, The Weeknd’s hometown, it was an exceedingly generous gesture made by the singer.
This marks the second donation by The Weekend in two weeks
Last weekend, reports surfaced that the singer had made a $50,000 donation to the University of Toronto to fund a new Ethiopic Studies program. As you can see, The Weeknd is definitely playing an integral part in making his community a better place.
The Weeknd voiced his concerns this past July
Last month, The Weeknd candidly spoke out against the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. “Enough is enough. it’s time to stand up for this. we can either sit and watch, or do something about it. the time is now. #blacklivesmatter.” He used is platform to denounce the inexcusable violence.
