The full timeline
We’re almost at the end of 2016, and for more than most of the year, Lil Wayne and Birdman have been at each other’s throats. Their beef has been one of the biggest beefs of this year and, by the looks of it, it’s going to spill well into 2017, and even further. Though this has been going on for two years (yes, two years!), Birdman is now more on the reconciling side, but Wayne isn’t with it. The rapper has been very vocal about not reconciling with his “father.”
Every show Wayne has performed for the past two years, he’s never left the stage without a “f**k you” message to Birdman and Cash Money Records. And his most recent performance was no different. After a recent performance in Syracuse, NY, Weezy put a way more vulgar spin on his FU message to Birdman/CMR. “You have been motherf**kin’ amazing. My name is Tunechi. I’m here on behalf of Young Moola motherfuckin’ baby. F**k Cash Money in they a**. Holla back.” Yeah, it got that real. If you still don’t know where all of this is stemming from, I’ve got you covered.
Lil Wayne Tweets Out
It all started on December 4, 2014, when he took to Twitter to call out Baby and the rest of Cash Money Records for stalling the release of his Tha Carter V album. He followed up with another tweet, stating, “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain’t that easy. I am a prisoner and so is my creativity.”
Fans grew concerned, zooming in on what was the beginning of Lil Wayne and Cash Money’s beef, but other label officials tried to dumb down the beef. Both Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, and Young Money President, Mack Maine, claimed that all was well between the two parties and that the album was to soon come. But it didn’t.
New Year, New Beef
After things began to get a little tense, Tez rushed to Instagram in Wayne’s defense, slamming Cash Money for not being there for the man who has carried the label on his back. He wrote:
“@LilTunechi built Young Money from his dreams to reality. Launched the careers of @Drake @NICKIMINAJ @Tyga not from their talent but from the belief in what he saw that they saw in themselves and put everything in making sure they fulfill their dreams! That’s what Young Money is about That’s the DNA of the real Lil Wayne Sacrifice himself to want his artist to be better! Wayne carried Cash Money on his back for over 10 years when he could have left and did this on his own The most loyal person I know on earth! He don’t deserve the sh*t he’s going through at this point in the game. One thing for sure Two things for certain @mackmaine and myself will not let this dream die WE GOT US! #YOUNG MONEY #sorry4forthewait #freeCV”
Lil Wayne Files Suit
On January 25, 2015, Lil Wayne announced that he filed a lawsuit against Cash Money. He sued Birdman for breach of contract by withholding Tha Carter V. Also in the lawsuit, Wayne wants to end his contract with the label and take all of his Young Money signees, like Drake and Nicki, with him.
If you know Birdman like I know Birdman, you already know he wasn’t letting that happen without a fight. Let the ‘all hell break loose’ commence.
