Teyana Taylor steals the spotlight wherever she goes
Teyana Taylor caused a few hearts to stop during her aggressive and impressive strut down the catwalk at New York Fashion Week. The model and wife of Iman Shumpert set the walkway on fire with the exact opposite of the dead-eyed and severe stomp that comes to mind when you picture a high-end fashion show.
While wearing lingerie for Philipp Plein, Taylor crawled, leapt, somersaulted, and split her way to the end of the walk while Future performed live. Taylor vogued briefly to the strains of “Mask Off” before leaping into the air and landing on her knees in a way that was so impressive that even a jaded New York Fashion Week crowd had to applaud.
Iman was in attendance and he posted a shot of his wife to Instagram, obviously super proud of his girl for killing it at the end of a major show.
“Backstage. Everyone deserves closure. Phillip picked the right one to close his. Ouch. #nyfw #philipplein #almondyaf,” he wrote.
Teyana Taylor is kind of used to stealing the spotlight by virtue of being otherworldly. When Kanye West debuted his video for “Fade,” there was plenty to talk about, but no one could take their eyes off of Taylor long enough to get to it. Her Flashdance-inspired dance routine and shower scenes with her equally gorgeous husband lit up social media before the premiere had even ended.
Taylor — who claims she does no workouts other than dancing — told Vogue that she was terrified about how she might look in the video. She apparently saw the final product at the same time as everyone else because Kanye.
“When I heard that the video was going to be premiering at the VMAs, I was like ‘Oh my god, it’s tonight! Do I look good? Do I look great? Is he going to change his mind and not premiere it?’” she said. “At that point I had already told all of my family, but even when he went onstage and I saw him, I thought he might just wind up doing something completely different because you just never know with Kanye.”
Though the final product was steamy, the set was anything but. The closing shot of Kanye surrounded by sheep was made with real sheep. And Teyana says they weren’t exactly respectful.
“They were sh*tting all over the place – there was poop everywhere!” Taylor began. “I didn’t know what was going on. I thought, ‘This crazy mother-effer. He’s got 15 sheep in this gym right now, with poop all over the place.’“
Taylor also said her involvement with Kanye’s video happened entirely by chance. According to Taylor, she ran into Kanye and after the two spoke about raising children, Yeezy decided he wanted her to star in the clip.
“I think that really inspired him for the video,” she said. “Literally, when I left the studio and went back to my recording room, [a head representative from G.O.O.D. Music] came up to me and said Kanye wanted me to dance to one of his songs—for ‘Fade.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god, you’re lying.’”
