If you’ve heard of The Real Sidechicks of Charlotte, you may have asked yourself: what exactly does it mean to be a sidechick?
Luckily, the source themselves have broken it down and explained exactly what it is, and why it’s not the same as getting paid for their special work.
The Sidechicks all got together to give some insight into their way of life. After explaining what the interview and audition process was like, they broke down the question that’s on everyone’s minds: What is a sidechick?
It was found that “the sidechick is the fun girl. The gift to your man when he’s ready to get away from you when you’re giving him a headache. So he comes here, and… I show him a good time, and he shows me a good time in return.”
The host then asks, “So are each of you in relationships now when you’re a sidechick?” They explained, “Everyone’s situation is different.”
Advantages of Being a Sidechick
The girls seemed happy to explain what they saw as the biggest advantages of their lifestyle.
“The advantages is you don’t have the headache. You already know where he is, and you already know what’s going on in his life, so it’s an open relationship. It’s kind of like we’re best friends. We can talk to each other about everything, because you know for a fact he’s not the only man that im dealing with… It’s no stress, no arguing, its all fun.”
Then the host asked what we’ve all been wondering: “Are there any financial benefits?”
“Of course!” they explained. “He’s married! She’s not gonna get all her bills paid and I’m not going to get anything. That makes absolutely no sense to me.”
They explained that the disadvantages are loneliness when he has to go home to his wife. Not all of the girls were comfortable “messing” with married men, and some of them said that they sometimes didn’t even know they were a sidechick.
It’s easy to be left wondering what the difference between a sidechick and an escort is. The Sidechicks pointed out that the biggest misconception about being a sidechick is that people think that they’re prostitutes.
The host asks, “What is the difference between prostitutes and sidechicks if there are financial benefits [to being a sidechick]?”
One points out that prostitution has no emotional ties to their client. “You pull up, get your money, do what you do,” but for sidechicks, there’s emotional involvement.
