They get real street cred.
I was born, raised and still live in New Orleans; And it was, at one point, considered to be one of the most. dangerous cities in America. Though there may still be some truth to that, my city has nothing on the cities of rappers who grew up there. Most rappers come from the hood. From the grimiest and most violent parts of the ghetto. The birth of hip-hop happened in New York. And while parts of NY are super dangerous, we are shedding light on America’s top five most dangerous cities.
Camden, New Jersey
Camden is the most dangerous city of New Jersey, where there are close to 2,000 violent crimes a year. Your chances of becoming a victim are 1 in 13. Hip-Hop greats from around the way of Camden and surrounding areas include Joe Budden, Akon, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Naughty by Nature.
Crime in Oakland remains serious and it continues to carry the rep of being one of being in the top five of cities with the highest crime rates. Its understaffed police department doesn’t help. Singer Keyshia Cole is from O-town, but also is Tupac, Too Short, Kelani, G-Eazy and Kreayshawn
St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis surpassed New Orleans, who held the title of having the highest murder rate in the U.S. With 1688 violent crimes and 159 murders, no wonder Nelly and the St. Lunatics tried to get out of there. Ching and “Tipsy” rapper J-Kwon are also from the STL.
