The rap world is congratulating Cardi
Everybody’s super geeked about Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” completing its long, slow ascent to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Whether it’s just via genuine love of Cardi B, an acknowledgement of the fact that female MCs almost never claim the spot, or a backlash against Taylor Swift and the larger industry she represents, a lot of people are excited about Cardi’s win. And that includes Cardi’s fellow rappers.
Just about everyone took a second to congratulate Cardi B on claiming the title of second female MC to reach the number one spot on a solo song. Cardi’s achievement is the first time that a solo femcee has reached the top of the chart in 19 years. Before her, Lauryn Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo Wop (That Thing)” was the only other song by a female artist to pull it off.
And her fellow rappers definitely noticed.
Coast to Coast
“Congratulations to a fellow NEW YAWKA on a RECORD BREAKING achievement. Bardi, this is the only thing that matters!!! Enjoy it💕💞🎀 @iamcardib,” wrote Nicki Minaj, who has frequently been accused of beefing with Cardi.
“Congratulations to my baby cakes @iamcardib I always knew this day would come and I am so happy and proud of U! Keep killin it baby! U deserve every bit of it,” wrote Lil Kim.
“Congratulations @iamcardib for having a #1 record in the country that’s not as easy as it seem this huge🙌🏾 May u have continued blessings🙏🏾,,” Missy Elliott jumped in to say.
The congrats extended across the country, with West Coast MCs just as happy to see the charismatic New Yorker on top.

“Huge congrats to @iamcardib this shit is inspiring as f*ck!” added G-Eazy in an Instagram post of the pair together. “Keep flourishing and making history you’re changing the world, first solo number 1 by a female rapper since Lauryn Hill!”
The South also had something to say to Cardi:
“Congrats @iamcardib on making history!!! #Salute #Respect Keep Goin!!!” T.I. wrote on social media.
Dej Loaf jumped in to send love from Detroit.
“You just made history!” she wrote under a picture of herself pouring a shot into Cardi’s mouth.
