Quincy Jones’ massive interview with GQ is stuffed to the brim with nuggets of wild information. Quincy’s 84 years on Earth have been more eventful than most folks whether he was eating rats in Chicago, taking lunch with Picasso or buying heroin from Malcolm X.
The entire massive screed is just revelation after revelation from someone who seems to know everyone who has ever been famous. He has stories about Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Prince and even Oprah. In fact, the only thing the superproducer might have more of than stories is girlfriends.
The 84-year-old producer said that he has 22 girlfriends scattered throughout the world. And he likes them half his age or younger.
Check out an excerpt below:
“‘I was married three times, man. Was told not to marry actresses or singers. I ended up with two actresses, Peggy Lipton and Nastassja Kinski, and a superstar model. I didn’t listen to all the advice.’
You really have 22 girlfriends?
‘H*ll yeah. Everywhere. Cape Town. Cairo. Stockholm—she’s coming in next week. Brazil—Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Rio. Shanghai—got a great girl over there from Shanghai, man. Cairo, whew.’
They all know about each other?
‘Yeah, I don’t lie. And it’s amazing—women get it, man. Don’t you ever forget they’re 13 years smarter than we are. Don’t you ever forget it.'”
Quincy said he was given some rules by his daughters about how young his lovers could be. But when has Jones ever listened to advice?
“Well, my daughters gave me new numbers, because they kept saying, ‘Dad, you can’t go out with girls younger than us.’ I said, ‘Y’all are not young anymore.…’ So the new numbers are 28 to 42. They gave them to me,” he said.
He also balked at the idea of dating someone his own age.
“H*ll no!” he said. “You see me with an 84-year-old woman? Are you crazy?”

In any other interview, that would be the highlight. But we’re talking about a 10,000-word epic about the entire life of a living legend. Just check out how he talks about getting stabbed while he was still a child living on the South Side of Chicago.
“‘Oh, they grabbed me, and they took a switchblade knife and nailed my hand to the fence right there.’ He points to a scar he’s had on his hand for 77 years. ‘And they stuck an ice pick’—he points to his left temple—’in here, the same time.'”
When the interviewer asked Jones if it hurt, he went off.
“Did it hurt? F**king right it did! A switchblade in your hand nailed to a fence. S**t, man. And an ice pick here. F**k, man, I thought I was gonna die,” he revealed. “I was terrified. Because you feel helpless. And then Daddy came out finally and hit ’em in a head with a hammer.”
We’re not exaggerating when we say that Jones’ interview is a roller coaster. It’s full of the sort of stories that only he would have access to and you should clear your schedule and dive in right here.
