Marijuana has always played a major part in the Hip Hop culture from Cypress Hill’s “Temple of Boom” L.P. to Dr. Dr’s “The Chronic.” Redman even taught us all “How to Roll A Blunt” on his debut L.P. “Whut : Thee Album.” From the early ’90s until today rappers have glorified the use of marijuana in their songs, videos, and pretty much their everyday lifestyle.
In 2017, weed culture is still very prevalent in Hip Hop and we hear many artists still reference the plant in their records. With legalization passed (in at least a few states now), we did a bit of due diligence and compiled a list of the strains that are most popular in the hip hop community…
1. Sour Diesel
Famous for its “loud,” strong smell, this weed will give you a nice mellow, head-focused, buzz. You can hear every rapper from Snoop Dogg to B Real to Redman reference this popular strain.
2. Girl Scout Cookies
Anybody remember the cool song “I Love College,” by Asher Roth?
We’re willing to bet that it was during those years that Roth discovered the popular strain that would be featured on his later track, “Girl Scout Cookies.” A lot of people thought he was talking about something else, but my stoners know.
3. Gorilla Glue #4
Def Jam newcomer Dave East made a whole song (“Gorilla Glue”) about this potent strain. Created by Gorilla Glue Strains, #4 won multiple titles at the 2014 Cannabis Cups in Michigan and Los Angeles. With that in mind, this has to be in the top 3 strains in the hoods across America right now.
