"Somebody who know me… was close to me.”
After tearfully revealing that he was robbed at gunpoint earlier this week (Monday, April 2) on Angie Martinez’s radio show, Safaree has learned that one of the thieves was an old friend. The 36-year-old suspected as much, theorizing that the robbers had to be “somebody who know me… was close to me.”
The Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star has reportedly known Shawn Harewood, who was arrested in connection with the robbery, since he was 14 years old. Though the two haven’t spoken since Safaree and Nicki Minaj broke up, according to TMZ, there was no word of the relationship ending on bad terms… which prompted some to ask why Harewood would move against his old friend.
Regardless, Harewood got his due karma, according to Safaree. Taking to Twitter, the “Hunnid” rapper tweeted, “When you do a crime and get caught 10 mins after you did it that’s called karma not snitching.” He went on to say that “moving forward” no one should “take offense to my new way of moving.”
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent blessings,” he added.
While talking to Angie Martinez, Safaree revealed that the incident — which he called “probably 1 of the worst scariest nights of [his] life” on Twitter — happened around 3 AM Monday morning. After leaving a club in Jersey, allowing the bulk of his security and the rest of his team to go home, he said the robbers caught him by hisself as he got out his car.
“Two dudes with guns just ran up on me. Had me face down to the floor with a gun to my head. They just took everything,” Safaree said. “The police… They workin’ on it. They told me not to really say too much until they figure the things out.”
“I was with one other person… I was with my chef,” he continued. “I got out my car. Soon as I got out my car, they just came out of no where and just backed out on us.”
“I’ve never had a gun put to my face. And it’s like, I don’t know who the hell these people were. I don’t know where it’s coming from,” he continued. The Brooklyn native went on to mention Vincent Roper, his deceased uncle who “just got killed for a robbery” back in 2017. The 64-year-old was stabbed to death in his Palmdale, Los Angeles home.
The star reiterated this point on Twitter after several social media users made fun of him for crying on live radio.
“Seeing your life flash b4 you’re eyes is a life changing experience. Nothing funny about it,” Safaree tweeted. “It’s probably only funny to ppl who don’t have anything or never experienced it. My uncle was killed in a robbery so when thinking about my situation all I think about is him.”
The NY native went on to clarity that he wasn’t “crying over lost jewelry” but the fear of “not knowing if you’re about to get shot in the back of your head.” He called the experience “traumatic” before thanking God that he’s safe.
