... but one face was missing
Lil Wayne had a surprise birthday party last night, but some important names might have been left off of the guest list. It didn’t take long after Nicki Minaj posted the clip of Wayne standing with his cake — and saluting the now late Hugh Hefner — for his daughter Reginae to start asking questions.
“Wow, had no idea about this,” she wrote under The Shade Room’s post of Nicki’s video. Minaj caught wind of the comment and responded to Wayne’s daughter.
“I swear fo Gawd I asked him where u at,” wrote Minaj. “He said u started college, Miss Thang & u wouldn’t be have been able to make it to Miami. But blame Mack, sis. He planned it.” “Yup, on the way to class now,” she responded. “Well, it looked like you had a ball.”
Another big name wasn’t on hand for Wayne’s party at the LIV nightclub in Miami, but he still took a second to wish the rapper a happy birthday. Drake celebrated his one-time mentor turning 35 by posting a tribute to Wayne on Instagram.
“Happy Birthday bossssssy!” he wrote. “Thank you for the endless tools and the inspiration! I would have been lost at how to maneuver this game without watching you do it first. I remember when they told you that it was impossible to build a skate ramp on your roof…and then I came back and you were skating on your roof. Please never change. Love for life.”
Not Slowing Down
Despite the fact that the More Life artist was missing from the star-studded event and in spite of his recent health scare, Lil Wayne seemed to be in good spirits. The rapper has battled with epilepsy for the last several years, and the condition is exacerbated by his notorious work ethic. However, he doesn’t look to be slowing down one bit.
Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant recently told TMZ how hard it is to get Wayne to take a break.
“I tell him that all the time but I don’t think that’s gonna work, man,” Bryant said.. “He a workaholic. That’s what got him to where he is now man. He’s just [in] the studio all the time trying to make music, get through this situation and give his fans what they need.”
Bryant also wanted to make it clear that they can’t just put Wayne’s life on hold because he has seizures. He has to live with epilepsy for the rest of his life and a seizure doesn’t change things.
“He’s a epileptic, so that’s the reality of it. You know, so it’s something that we’re gonna have to deal with for the rest of his life and, you know, we’ll just make sure he’s popping meds and try to force him to get some rest, but sometimes he doesn’t do that. But it’s something that, it’s not gonna hinder us and stop us,” he said.
“It’s not going to stop us, he added. “We’re not going to let a disease stop us.”
