MC Lyte publicly reaches out to a 'ghosted' Kanye.
In case you haven’t noticed, the Kanye West media has been slacking in the past few months. After his hospitalization last December, things have been mostly quiet on the Yeezus front as he records his new album. It seems almost surreal to say that Kanye West has been avoiding media attention, considering that he’s often panned for loving it so much. Either way, haters and fans alike are saying the same thing: “it’s quiet… too quiet…”
After last night’s BET Awards, long-time staple of the program and legendary talent MC Lyte took it upon herself to share some words of longing for the Kanye that she wants to see return to the spotlight. It was heartfelt, uplifting, and… cryptically implicant.
While MC Lyte has never worked with Kanye, her longevity in the industry must demand some of his respect. After releasing her first album, Lyte as a Rock, in 1988, she became the first female solo rapper nominated for a Grammy.
Apart from appearing in the occasional Kim Kardashian snap, Kanye has gone virtually radio silent since late last year after being admitted for psychiatric evaluation. Since returning home, Kanye has deleted his social media presence and buried himself in his work.
MC Lyte’s overall message to the ghosted rapper was sincere. “We miss you, Kanye,” she said. It was written in the voice of a respected peer from one hip hop legend to another, and it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Kanye comes out of hiding to respond…
