Maia Campbell used to be one of the stars from the 90’s show In The House, but recently she’s been a star in a different way. She’s been struggling with her life for quite some time now. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, lost custody of her child, and she’s seen the inside of a jail cell multiple times. After a video of her recently surfaced, rapper and former In The House co-star LL Cool J reached out to try to help her. You’ll be surprised at what she had to say to that.
When Atlanta rapper “T-Hood” released the footage of Maia Campbell all cracked out, the internet cried foul. It seemed completely unnecessary to put someone on blast like that when they were seemingly struggling to get their life together.
Right from the start people called the rapper a terrible person and said that he should be trying to help her instead of hurting her image. Rapper LL Cool J took to Twitter, saying, “Instead of pulling out your phone and filming someone who’s obviously having trouble. Maybe lend a helping hand? A kind word?”
After the Tweets, Cool J posted on Instagram asking the fans for help. He said that if anyone had contact information for Maia Campbell they should give it to him so he could reach out to her.
In the video you can see Campbell clearly saying “I want some crack” and going through a story about how a man raped her in an “un-human” encounter. Things weren’t looking so well for her.
Late on Monday afternoon, Maia responded to Cool J. She insisted that everything was fine and that she didn’t need any help; she mentioned that she would prefer a mental health benefit concert instead of the rapper’s help offer.
“Hey [LL Cool J], look bro, I love you. I don’t need help, I just need a benefit concert for mental health. Don’t TMZ me, it’s really me and this is Darryl,” she said at a hair salon while having another man record her.
