Keyshia Cole has been ordered to pony up a pretty penny after roughing up a woman she thought to be Birdman’s side-piece in 2014.
Sabrina Mercadel was attacked by Keyshia after Cole showed up in the middle of the night at Birdman’s Los Angeles condo. Cole, who was dating Birdman at the time, flew into a rage over finding Mercadel there and tore into the woman. Now, that outburst will cost her six figures.
Keyshia failed to appear to defend herself in court, so Mercadel was awarded $100,635. That’s a lot of money no doubt, but it’s a far cry from what Mercadel was asking for.
Mercadel sued for $4 million, naming both Birdman and Cole in the lawsuit. Her claims broke down as follows:
“$1.5 million for pain and suffering
$500k for emotional distress
$2 million for loss of use of a body part
$200k for future medical expenses
$50k for loss of earnings
$300k for future loss of earnings”
A Great Year
Obviously, she didn’t get anything close to that. But $100K is nothing to squawk at. Cole has yet to respond to the ruling, staying busy promoting her new album 11:11 Reset instead.
The singer recently shared how she came to make the new album, saying that the title was in the ether.
“For the past year, I’ve been seeing 1111 constantly and to my understanding, you’re aligned spiritually with your destiny and everything that is meant to be in your life is happening at the right time,” she said. “The timing is right. Everything is right. Reset is definitely cohesive with that.”
The settlement has come on the tail end of an otherwise good year for Cole. She recently received shared custody of her son DJ and she explained how well that’s been going in an interview with The Real.
“[Shared custody] was my initial asking of what they felt it should’ve been and I said OK well, that seems pretty fair to me. That’s what we do naturally and normally. One week he’s with you, one week he’s with me and then he comes back with you and then he comes back with me. So you know and we share the same nanny so it’s not that big of a deal and um, I thought that was the agreement, you know?”
On the other end, Birdman has had an a absolutely terrible year. All of his famous friends have turned on him in the wake of his very public beef with Lil Wayne over an alleged failure to pay Cash Money artists. And he’s not helping his case when he does speak out on it.
“B**ch, Lil Wayne my son. I raised him. He ain’t have nothing. I brought him to be something and got something. B**ch, you don’t think I’m gonna make sure he straight? Suck a n***a d**k, B***h,” he said in a polarizing Instagram video.
“And if you cross my line, you already know — I ain’t even got to tell you. You know what type of n***a I am and how I live. F**k you, n***a. Tear you’re a*s up playing with me and mine. F**k these old coward a*s, scary a*s n***as playing. They ain’t no gangstas — they don’t wanna see no murder. So you p***y a*s n****s, stick to what you do, blood. Because y’all ain’t about this s**t at all.”
