Kevin Gates might be getting out
It looks like Kevin Gates might finally be coming home. The Shade Room posted a photo of Kevin’s paperwork, and he’s eligible for parole on Jan. 10.
The rapper was sentenced to 30 months in prison for possession of a firearm, but he could get out less than a year after being taken into custody.
Of course, we know not to get our hopes up. The rapper was supposed to be released sometime this year after a 180-day sentence for kicking a female fan in the chest after he grabbed him at a Florida show. However, authorities found an outstanding warrant on Gates in the eleventh hour for the aforementioned felony firearms possession and extradited him to Illinois to serve time.
In spite of his incarceration, the rapper is still managing to release new music. He recently shared “What If,” a seemingly autobiographical clip that shows a woman raising kids while her husband is locked away over a strange cover of Joan Osbourne. It closes with a letter from Gates encouraging fans to keep their heads up as he deals with serving his time, even after the disappointment of the false start on his almost release. Check out the letter below:
“In the name of the Most Gracious Most Merciful
“Dear Loyal Family, Disallow yourselves to be troubled in my time of absence. All of the great ones who came before and will come after me: Have had to go through this.
“By this I’m speaking in reference to hardship. A great a person is measured by all of the great tests they can undergo and still remain true to who they are. With that being said ‘I’m Him.’ I love you all. In closing, I remain the same.”
In addition to Gates letter, his wife Dreka sent a message to fans that encouraged them to focus their energy on getting Gates out. She wrote,
“To everyone that’s rooting for Kevin right now, thank you but please shift your thoughts, prayers, energy, etc. towards the idea of Kevin being home and enjoying his life as a free man. Do not dwell on the things that have been put out by the media. Their only goal in anything is to grab/seek attention, not necessarily to release information that is factual.”
And it looks like all those good vibes have a chance to pay off very, very soon.
Kevin Gates might be back out and looking to follow up his massively successful and critically adored slab of Southern Gothic Gangsta rap Islah. Gates has only gotten stronger throughout his career releasing mixtape after mixtape of critically adored and commercially successful music. Now that he has several years of incarceration and writing to draw from, we can’t even imagine how huge his second album might actually be.

In short, if you’re a fan of hip-hop, you should be pulling for Gates to get out sooner rather than later. He’s coming out with what we can only imagine are notebooks full of material and he’s likely to hit the studio ASAP given that he’s already released music from prison.
