The internet’s ever-spinning rumor mill has geared up again for hip-hop’s favorite conscious rapper. After the release of the music video for “LOVE,” spectators are more convinced than ever that K-Dot’s long time girlfriend Whitney Alford is expecting.
Rumors that Kendrick was gearing up to be a father started over the summer. In mid-June The Shade Room broke the pregnancy news, citing “a source connected to the couple.”
“His biggest blessing of the year is on its way because Kendrick’s fiancée #WhitneyAlford is pregnant!” the gossip outlet posted on Instagram. “Now you know we stay in the streets so it was only a matter of time before we got the tea.”
The couple did not confirm or deny the news in June, and they are not responding now.
Since Day One
Many speculated that “LOVE” was written for Whitney. Shortly after its summer release, the internet gushed over K-Dot rapping about his “only for life” and “homie for life.” Throughout the smooth-sounding love song, Kendrick seems to reaffirm his love for his future bride, rapping, “I bought the big one to prove it/ Look what you made.”
If the track is indeed an ode to his fiancée, it would only be fitting to have her in the video. If only they weren’t so private about things…
The high-school sweethearts have a habit of keeping the inner workings of their relationship to themselves, but the rapper isn’t shy about talking about Whitney. Two years ago, during Kendrick’s cover interview for Billboard, he said that his then-girlfriend means way more to him than anyone could imagine.
“I wouldn’t even call her my girl,” he said. “That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion — she’s somebody I can tell my fears to.”
In the “LOVE” video around the two minute mark, the camera pans to show Kendrick sitting down, surrounded by women. Though none of the ladies’ faces are visible in the shot, the women sitting closest to him on his right hand side is pregnant… big pregnant.
If The Shade Room‘s source from over the summer was legit, Whitney would be about seven or eight months along, and the women shown at the 2:05 mark in the recently released music video looks to be about that far into pregnancy.
If the women in the video is Whitney, then a baby-on-the-way is the icing on the cake of a perfect year. Semi-confirmation of Kendrick’s offspring follows news that his producer’s hard drive was recently found. Early this December, Derek Ali (aka MixedByAli) was robbed of a hard drive containing over $1 million worth of original music. While the engineer was at the gym, the thief broken into his BMW.
Thanks to fingerprints left behind on the Top Dawg Entertainment member’s car, Hawthorne, California police department was able to recover the stolen drive and arrest the perp, Jonjairo Espinoza. Twenty-three-year-old Espinoza was connected to crimes in L.A., Carson, Hawthorne, and Torrance.
“Basically these guys are serial car burglars,” Hawthorne police Lt. James Royer said to Los Angeles Daily News. “They prey upon victims who leave items viewable from the outside.”
While no one knows exactly what is on the drive, Ali surely needed it back. Royer said the producer was “very happy” when authorities returned his property to him. Although another copy is still missing, the device is encrypted, rendering it useless to whoever has it.
