She might not be one of the biggest names in the rap game, but Kiara “Katie Got Bandz” Johnson has made a name for herself in recent years. She’s been referred to as the “Queen” of drill music. The star is most known for her song “Pop Out” that came out back in 2015 on her album Drillary Clinton 3. Her rap career might be headed in the right direction, but the Chicago native recently found herself in a place she didn’t want to be… behind bars!
Before she got into the rap game, she was actually a pre-med student at Truman College, studying biology. The 24-year-old started her career in a low end neighborhood in South Side, Chicago. She’s said many times that this neighborhood she grew up in is actually the muse for the lyrics and stories that she tells while rapping. Her favorite rapper of all time is Waka Flocka Flame, which you can tell if you listen to her music.
Katie was the “debut rapper” of the whole drill music scene in Chicago. She did say that she wants to expand her music to try and make her sound a little bit more global, but that might be later on down the road.
She says that the crime and violence in the city of Chicago ends up giving her drill music style a bad rap, but she might actually be contributing to that…
Katie was recently arrested for identity theft, and she took to Twitter to tell the fan that she was free. One reporter from the Chicago Sun-Times claimed that she was actually booked all the way back in June.
After she missed her court dates, a judge issued a warrant for her arrest and she was kept without bail. After that her bail was eventually reduced to $50,000, and she bonded out earlier on Wednesday.
