What's good, IzzeYe?
IzzeYe is a name you may want to keep tabs on from here on out. With a steadily growing buzz and a distinct new sound, IzzeYe is getting ready to make some major waves in the hip-hop world. Born RaShaan Perkins, IzzeYe is a rapper who represents Chester, Pennsylvania. Although he grew up playing different sports, music was something that the rising star gravitated towards throughout his youth.
Performing and marketing himself by the age of 14, he was inspired by local legends such as Joey Jihad, Quilly Millz, Reed Dollaz, and Meek Mill. He also draws influence from older generations of soul music, citing Curtis Mayfield as one of the artists he looked up to. IzzeYe calls his genre “trap funk”, describing it as rap, but with a groovy and funky flavor. Now, he’s dropping a new video that’s sure to shake up the scene.
What His Name Means
IzzeYe (pronounced is-eye) says he picked his unique stage name to harken the roundedness of life. Just as an eye is round, so too is the sun, the earth, and the patterns of life we experience. IzzeYe explains further in an exclusive interview with HipHopMyWay:
“What you go through, it has a meaning for it. It may not have a meaning right then and there, but it’s going to have a meaning eventually. It’s going to come full circle and it’s going to make sense, but you just got to be patient and persistent for it.”
His name also has a double meaning, representing the phrase “Is I,” which is symbolic to him as an ownership of identity and a reminder to stay true to himself. As for the capitalization, IzzeYe chooses to use an uppercase Y to encourage people to ask the question “why?”
IzzeYe hopes for people to confront the challenges in their life by asking this question, rather than stray away from the confrontation or cognitive dissonance the act of questioning may bring. The same thoughtfulness he put into his name extends into his goals he has in the music industry.
The rising star believes that people don’t choose their mission in life. Rather, the mission chooses them, and it is up to the individual to choose how hard they pursue their mission. He sees his mission as bringing good vibes into the lives of people he comes in contact with, whether it’s through his music, fashion, or anything else he does. He says that he wants people to never give up and always be asking the tough questions.
Currently living in Brooklyn, New York, IzzeYe graduated from Hofstra University in 2016 with a degree in Global Studies. He was approached about a year ago by his alma mater with an offer to be one of the first major names to be signed to their student-run record label, Mane Records. With mentorship from reputable music executives who’ve worked with names like Drake and 50 Cent, IzzeYe says the signing to his former university’s label was an extraordinary opportunity.
