It sure seems like it
Kehlani and PartyNextDoor’s alleged relationship blew up all over social media last year. When it seemed like the R&B singer had cheated on her then-boyfriend Kyrie Irving with the fellow crooner, the internet laid into her. These attacks showed the darker side of fame and social media when the singer posted a picture from the hospital indicated that the backlash pushed the singer to attempt suicide.
While the controversy around the pair has died down, it looks like PND isn’t quite done with the story. His latest single “Own Up To Your Sh*t” doesn’t call out Kehlani by name, but it definitely feels like it’s directed at the troubled singer.
“Everybody knows that I’ve been honest,” he says on the track.
“Move on from it, it’s too obvious
Worked too hard to make me the bad guy
And I worked too hard for me to keep sacrificin’, my silence
You gotta quit and break down baby girl
And just quit lyin’
Stop complainin’, quit complainin’.”
The “bad guy” language clearly echoes other statements that PND has made in the past about the situation between himself and Kehlani. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he explained that the past year left him feeling sour in spite of his successes.
“It was a blue year for me,” he said. “I thought, ‘Write a hit, you’ll be rich and happy.’ Meet one of the most beautiful girls in the world, one of the most talented, and I’ll be happy. All of that: I’m not happy.”
When it came time to talk about his relationship with Kehlani, PND said that the whole story hadn’t been told.
“I regret how it went down,” he said. “Big time I regret how it went down. I look into people’s eyes and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know. I just hope people understand that was a year for him. And I hope everyone has a successful year, and I hope that’s in the past.””
Well, it seems like PND is giving us a few more details now. And he might not be following his own advice to leave the past in the past.
PND hasn’t been content to sit back and not beef since the Kehlani kerfuffle died down. He took to Snapchat earlier this year to take shots at another unnamed person who he accused of being a culture vulture. Fans named everyone from Drake (unlikely) to Jeremih (yeah, probably) as the possible target of his vague rant.
Shortly thereafter, the “Come and See Me” singer said that he had beef with Tyrese, who allegedly dissed him twice.
“Tried to say wussup to Tyrese he dissed twice lol,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Just for y’all kids coming up, do your thing & in time they boomerang, love.”
Listen to the song up top and let us know what you think. Is PND talking about Kehlani? Should he be airing all this so long after their falling out? And shouldn’t he show a bit more concern for a woman who ended up in the hospital the last time this sort of drama unfolded?
