Po' up, drank.
Nowadays, alcohol is just as important as water. Well, to some. Maybe. Seems like it, especially to those in the music industry.
There’s not one rap song I can think of that doesn’t mention alcohol. Whether rappers are rapping about taking a sip, a gulp or starting with straight shots and then popping bottles, alcohol seems to be rappers favorite thing to talk about.
From Snoop’s 1994 hit, “Gin & Juice,” to Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 smash hit, “Swimming Pools (Drank),” we’ve got the best hip-hop boozy songs to serve as party anthems for our liquored up nights.
Check them out.
Snoop Doggy Dogg – “Gin & Juice” (1994)
This song will forever be one of the most classic cuts to sit back and sip to. “Now, that I got me some Seagram’s gin / Everybody got they cups, but they ain’t chipped in.”
Sounds about right, Snoop. Sounds about right. Let us not forget that Snoop popularized Seagram’s, making it everyone’s choice of gin.
Iconz – “Get F**ked Up” (2001)
You read the title right. You were not allowed to stay sober in a party when this song blasted through the speakers. Just like the line goes, “Yo get f**ked up, stay f**ked up/ Roll to the club in a navigator truck.”
… Actually, don’t. No drinking and driving. No bueno.
Busta Rhymes ft. P. Diddy and Pharrell – “Pass the Courvoisier, Part II” (2002)
There was no doubt that after Busta, Pharrell, and Diddy stamped the brand as their cognac of choice, it became wildly popular.
Hell, I wasn’t old enough to drink at the time the song came out, but I wanted someone to pour me a glass!
