Everything was all cool between Future and his producer/friend Rocko… until the “Squares Out Your Circle” rapper found out Future had made a side deal with Epic Records. While details on the deal are still scarce, the side-piece reportedly cut Rocko out of millions.
For the betrayal, Rocko took Future to court, seeking $10 million. Shortly afterwards, Future and his legal team came back with a countersuit, claiming that the contract didn’t make the duo exclusive.
After an 18-month legal battle, the case has finally come to a close. While specifics are vague, TMZ says Rocko’s lawyers were content with the “very successful result.” The gossip site’s sources claim the payout is seven figures but wouldn’t give an exact number.
The Rumor Mill
Solid news of Rocko and Future’s settlement comes after several rumors. During the spring of this year, MediaTakeOut sparked rumors that the two had settled, claiming Future would have to pay Rocko all royalties on his next two albums.
Of course, fans ran with it.
Once the news got back to Rocko though, he shut them down. “WHO COMES UP W/ THESE STORIES THO??” he wrote on Instagram. He then tweeted, “NOT SURE WHO CAME UP WITH THAT PHONY STORY BUT IT IS FALSE!”
Future may be feuding with his producer, but he’s probably also still mourning the loss of his engineer.
Atlanta rap scene fixture and Future’s personal engineer Seth Firkins passed away in September. The 36-year-old’s death shook the hip-hop community — especially the intimate circle of hip-hop in Atlanta. Everyone from Mike Will Made It to Zoey Dollaz offered a tribute to Firkins, but none was more heart-felt than Future’s.
“I always gave racism a cold shoulder because my real brother Is a white guy by the name of Seth Firkins,” he began the lengthy Instagram post. “I got a call saying u died in your sleep? First thing came to my mind is, why are you sleep at 5am? That’s when we record our best shit & I tell u ‘don’t’ fall asleep we got more work to do.. but somethin told me I should’ve been at home recording for some reason.”
According to Future, just as he was on his way inside the “bad news beat [him] home!” The rapper said that the love he had for Firkins is unmatched before proclaiming that he “will cherish [Firkins] forever.”
“I just wish u would’ve text me & told me u was going to sleep and i wasn’t going to be able to wake u up this time,” Future concluded. “Rest well my brother. Rest well.”
Around that same time, Future’s relationships were all over the internet. Maybe now that Future’s legal woes have settled, he can focus on his love life… what’s left of it. After the rapper infamously lost Ciara to her now-husband Russell Wilson, he reportedly went on to date Joie Chavis (a.k.a Bow Wow’s ex).
While the couple was doing a good job of keeping their relationship out of the headlines, it all went down hill about three months ago. Future was caught in pictures at Chavis’ birthday party, sitting by her side the whole time. The fan comments and reactions worsened after it came out that Future bought Chavis a Rolex for her big day.
No fan or hater was pettier than Chavis’ ex Bow Wow, though. Amidst the news that the two were an item, Bow Wow headed to Twitter. “Had your girl in the islands ‘and you aint een know it’ but she kissing you with the same mouth… never mind hahahah,” he tweeted.
