The end of Gambino?
Donald Glover is one of the rare talents who was able to form a solid career both acting and rapping. He’s been a star on TV shows like Community and Atlanta, and he’s even going to be a part of a new Star Wars film. He’s got a bright future and a ton of talent, so why is he leaving some of it behind?
Donald Glover is known as “Childish Gambino” when it comes to his rap game. Unfortunately it seems like he’s trying to leave that alter ego behind. However, he’s not done with music and the name isn’t retired yet. He may just have something left up his sleeves.
After talking to the Huffington Post recently, he said that the reason for the name change, or abandonment, was because of the fact that he didn’t want to become redundant.
“There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?'” he said. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”
He also went on to say that he thought if he dropped another album, it would lose his “punk mentality.”
“Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at Atlanta as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore,” he said.
