In last night’s episode of T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle, S6 E5, T.I.’s son (Tiny’s step-son) Domani [Harris] believes he was racially profiled. Domani explains to the family that when he was out at an event “this man did have him feeling some type of way”. The family laughed it off at first, until he continued to say, “I think I was racially profiled and basically treated like a criminal”.
Domani said he was walking into an event and the manager stopped him and gave him two options, let him check his bag or go. T.I. asked did he ask to search anyone else to which Domani answered no. Domani said he was going to leave but the people he was with said to let the manager check his bag. Domani let the manager search his bag and after finding only his hard drive and work equipment, the manager continued to harass him saying that Domani had been in there before and he’d kicked him out for bringing in a gun. Even asked security to come outside. Clearly Domani was confused for someone else, but does that make it okay? This situation put the Harris family on alert and T.I. into action.
Meeting with the Lawyer
T.I., along with his sons Messiah and Domani, met with his lawyer Jonathan on how to respond. After some discussion, Domani curbed that idea. He didn’t want to spend any more energy on it, he just doesn’t want it to happen to other people. The experience was upsetting enough for him and he would rather not give it anymore energy. A mature decision but is it the right one?
Racial Profiling is the Norm
After a visit to T.I.’s old neighborhood, T.I., explained to his son’s Messiah and Domani that racial profiling was the norm. That was something people in that neighborhood always dealt with and that was that. But because his children are so fortunate to not be in that area, they are still subject to the same kind of treatment. Peaking Domani’s passion for the situation. Wanting to make sure this never happened to anyone else, Domani proposed getting into the studio so he can “be a voice for the community”. Turning a negative into a positive! Looking forward to hearing the track Domani!
