Turning one is a... well, you know
DJ Khaled is making sure that his son has the biggest, most luxurious life imaginable. The producer and hitmaker has found plenty of ways to make sure that his young son is set for life, most notably by making him an executive producer on Khaled’s latest album Grateful. The rockstar/infant life extends to Asahd’s birthday celebration.
On Asahd’s 1st birthday, Khaled rented out Miami’s famed LIV nightclub — in the daytime, of course, because even rich babies need their sleep — and threw a huge jungle-themed bash for his firstborn. According to TMZ, the whole shindig cost Khaled six figures and included a performance from Diddy, proving that no one loves their kid as much as DJ Khaled loves Asahd.
Honestly, if you’re getting someone as vivacious as the Bad Boy head himself for your first birthday, where do you go from there? Who plays your Sweet 16? Tupac’s actual ghost?
No matter, the photos of the event seem to show Asahd and his proud papa having a great time.
Putting in Work
In case you think that Asahd is just earning a check for existing, DJ Khaled explained how his son was an integral part of the creation of Grateful. Khaled explained that Asahd had a hand in deciding which tracks made their way onto the album on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He would play the tracks for Asahd and track his reactions to figure out which cuts were album-worthy.
”He is credited as executive producer, and his attorney has his points and royalties, everything. Listening to the songs, going over the business part of it, [deciding] if the vocals are right, if the beats are right, if the energy’s right. When he [rocks and grins], those are smash hit records, when he [looks deep in thought], that’s the real serious records but hits with substance. It’s a vibe, you know what I mean? Believe it or not, the poops and the throw-ups are super blessings. Those are actually the real good ones. He actually threw up on me while I was mixing and working on ‘Shining,’ and when he threw up on me, that [was] a blessing.”
Asahd also helped his dad overcome a huge fear recently. In spite of his status as a megastar, Khaled hadn’t flown anywhere in nearly a decade before commitments to his family forced him to take a jet to a gig.
“I know what it looks like but this isn’t just some picture fronting outside a jet. This is my We The Best Squad!” wrote photographer Lenny S on Instagram. “This is over a decade of no flights for my brother Khaled. Over 12yrs actually. Everyone and their mother has tried to convince him. Even Tony Robbins. Lol. He’s been offered Jets and a million dollars for a gig and still a NO GO! It wasn’t happening no matter what.”
“Thank God for the Young Prince who is basically the main reason we’re on this flight. Thanks Asahd!!!!! That’s the good news,” he continued. “The bad news is, all promoters… The BAG has just gone UP big time and now every gig must come with a Jet. Lol. Congratulations and Thanks in advance.”
