Diddy being Diddy
As we all know, P. Diddy is somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades. He’s an award winning hip-hop artist, an actor, an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. He can really do it all. Recently, Puff drew some attention for flexing his impressive photoshop skills, when he posted a picture on Jan. 29 showing Jay-Z, Nas, and Jay-Z, captioning the picture, “3 Kings! 3 GREAT FRIENDS! Love you guys. #BlackGreatness”.
While it’s commendable that Diddy shows love for these hip-hop all-stars, a lot of people started accusing him of throwing shade when a photo surfaced on French Montana’s Instagram, showing a picture quite similar to the one Diddy posted, captioned “STUDENT OF THE GAME !!! TRYNA PLAY FOREVER !!!!! ‼”. The only differences were Fabolous’ presence in the far right of the picture, and French Montana’s head between the shoulders of Nas and Kendrick, where a conspicuous black mass had been.

One can speculate endlessly on the reasons Diddy took such actions. Was French Montana’s shirt too bright? DId Fabolous’ suit color throw off the aesthetic? Or, was Diddy trying to play favorites? The possibilities have no end.
Regardless, Diddy’s latest antics have revived the #DiddyCrop hashtag, not to be confused with the other hashtag he is associated with, #DiddyBop.
The Met Gala Crop
#DiddyCrop’s origins date back to May, 2017 at the Met Gala. A photo was posted on Kylie Jenner’s Instagram, featuring Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Wiz Khalifa, Travis Scott, Jaden Smith, Migos, of course, Diddy himself. Puff apparently liked the photo, because it resurfaced on his Instagram the day after Kylie posted it. However, he made a slight adjustment: the Jenner girls were cropped out of the photo, and he added the caption, “#teamlove #blackexcellence”.
Again, Diddy’s motives remain unclear. Maybe the Jenners didn’t quite make the cut at the #teamlove tryouts, or that the crop created an exceptional opportunity to celebrate “#blackexcellence.”
The Original Photo
Although it is assumed that Diddy maintains a good relationship with the Kardashian family, he’s definitely had a history with them on Instagram. At the Yeezy Season 2 show, Kim Kardashian had posted a picture that included a row of celebrities, including herself, with Diddy staring down the camera. Diddy reposted the picture, with a #DiddyCrop of Alexander Wang on the left, and Kim K on the right.
Another chapter of Diddy’s social media escapades with the Kardashian family came in the form of an Instagram post at the time of the premier of his documentary, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story. In a photo of him posing with Kendall Jenner, he wrote the caption, “Last night @kyliejenner #cantstopwontstop #aboutlastnight”.
