It's not the best time, bro
New York rap may never fully come back, but beef is eternal. The new school of New York rappers wouldn’t get so much as a nod from the old heads who like to pooh-pooh the SoundCloud generation, but a look at the way they like to beef might make someone from the city’s Golden Age a little misty-eyed.
Tekashi 69 aka 6ix9ine is beefing with the rapper Casanova 2X over social media. The pair are creeping in each other’s comment sections to roast each other according to screenshots uncovered by AllHipHop.
Tekashi accuses Casanova of coming after him on wax when he was too scared to talk the same way in person.
“This wasn’t your energy at all last night when n**gas saw you in the spot,” he wrote.
Tekashi is in no position to be starting beef, however. Recent headlines surrounding would make any diss track trading unfairly weighted in favor of his competitors. The “Gummo” rapper recently pleaded guilty to assault crimes committed against a minor. If his enemies can’t make hay out of that, they need to hang it up.
Tekashi pleaded guilty to three felony counts of “Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance,” stemming from an incident that occurred over the summer. The age and name of the girl involved are unknown. Tekashi’s fellow Brooklyn rapper ZillaKami posted photos of Tekashi fondling the girl and claimed that she was just 13 years old. Tekashi was over 18 at the time the photos were taken.
Tekashi originally vehemently denied the claims through his representatives.
“He doesn’t even like to say the R word, we don’t play around with that s**t,” a representative for the rapper told Mass Appeal earlier this year. “As someone with a 3-year-old daughter we take this very seriously… Their whole thing was to try to slander his name and make him look terrible.”
However, he has put in a guilty plea and could face as much 15 years per count. The dust-up around the rapper caused even his former friends to turn on him.
“I’m sorry brozay, 1400 don’t promote pedophiles,” frequent collaborator and fellow internet star Trippie Redd said in a since-deleted Instagram video. “If we give n**gas clout, we give n**gas clout. It was an accident.”
Producer Pierre Bourne, who had worked with Tekashi in the past, also distanced himself from the rapper.
“F**k that Gummo s**t,” he wrote. “Y’all n**gas doing weird s**t some opps.”
Tekashi told police that he thought she was older than him at the time.
“When she came in she asked me how old I was and I told her I was 18 and I assumed she was older. The way she was asking made me think she was older,” he said in a report obtained by Jezebel.
He also claimed that he never touched the girl in an interview with DJ Akademiks.
“I’m not touching the girl, I’m not having […] intercourse with the girl, I’m not doing nothing, she just n*de in some type of way,” he said.
Check out the posts over on AllHipHop. What do you think? Should a confessed pedophile start beef? Will Casanova be able to show his face again if he doesn’t absolutely destroy the colorful rapper? Can he just play the long game and wait for the rapper’s sentence to come down? Is it a bad look to attach your name to somoene accused of such crimes, even in a diss track?
