The regular girl from the Bronx made it to TV
The Super Bowl truly became an all-inclusive event when its commercials became — wait for it — legendary. Annually, sports lovers and non-sports lovers come together in unison to laugh at the creative ways companies chose to promote their products.
With 2018’s Super Bowl just days away — it airs Sunday, Feb. 4 — this year’s most hilarious commercials are starting to roll in. And what do ya’ know… Hip-hop’s latest, Cardi B, stars in one of them.
Setting the Scene
The rapper kills it in Amazon’s Super Bowl commercial. In the promo, Amazon’s “intelligent personal assistant” Alexa has lost her voice. In the face of reputation-damaging headlines, Amazon executives scramble to find good voice replacements.
Amazon calls on the help of celebrity chief Gordon Ramsey, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson, and rapstress Cardi B to answer Alexa user’s questions and requests.
Flexin’ on TV, Like…
“Alexa, how far is Mars?” asks a high school student doing his homework. Chiming in for Alexa, Cardi B answers, “How far is Mars? Well, how am I supposed to know? I never been there.”
“This guy wanna go to Mars,” Cardi says with a laugh. “For what? There’s not even oxygen there.”
Cardi’s the only celeb to show up in the commercial twice. Her second wave of air time comes after an Alexa user requests some country music. Instead of Luke B, Cardi B stars playing. After seconds of “Bodak Yellow,” the user asks for country music again. However… “Bodak Yellow” starts up again.
Surely, the commercial will only bolster Cardi’s status as a person of interest. During the Grammy’s preliminary activities, major news outlets couldn’t wait to chat with the star.
E! got a hold of her and asked her a question every true fan wants the answer to: when is the wedding?
“You want to know the thing about is… I really want to get married around the fall time, I love the fall time,” Cardi told E!’s Sibley Scoles at Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala in New York City. “But I keep getting, ‘Do you want to do tour around this time?’ ‘Hey do you want to do this around this time?’”
“And it’s just like—I’m touring, I’m putting out an album. He’s touring, putting out an album,” she added.
“We’re really into our careers in our lives…We are really workaholics. It’s crazy,” Cardi continued, after sharing that her wedding won’t be a one day event. “It’s not only about the wedding date. It’s not just one day,” Cardi said. “It’s gotta be a whole almost two weeks type of thing. We want a honeymoon. Do we even have time for that?”
Even Offset, who usually keeps his relationship with Cardi out of his interviews, made similar statements during a recent one-on-one with Rolling Stone. “We chilling. We don’t got time for that right now,” Offset answered when asked about wedding planning.
