Cardi B and Offset are officially engaged. A little after midnight on Saturday (OCt. 28), the 25-year-old New York native posted a video on Twitter of Offset popping the big question. Captioned “Offset proposed,” the video shows the couple at Power 99 radio’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia.
In the video, Offset taps Cardi on the shoulder, squatting down as she turns around. Offset then opens a box, revealing a huge diamond ring, as Cardi proceeds to flip out. After minutes of her bouncing around, Offset stands to put the ring on her finger.
The “Foreva” rapper posted a string of social media posts about her engagement, including a long, tear-jerking message to her groom-to-be. “Jesus Christ I’m so emotional, offsetyrn I loveee you so much. Thank you for seeing the potential in me since you met me. For giving me advice molding me and loving me,” she began in an Instagram caption. “Your such a amazing man to me your family, friends, kids and you are extremely talented. I can’t wait to spend FOREVAAAA with you. Lets make a lot shmoney and love together ❤️ ❤️”
She also posted an Instagram video, giving her fans a close up view of her 8-carat engagement ring. The
pear shaped raindrop shaped ring glistened in her hand as she moved it around to show the rock from every angle, saying, “I just want to go to sleep and wake up and make sure this ain’t a dream. Thank you God for all these blessings.”
With Cardi’s Twitter video retweeted over 5000 times and her Instagram post liked over two million times, the couple’s good news traveled fast. So fast, that BET and VH1 couldn’t get in Cardi’s Twitter mentions fast enough.
Yes, the couple had broken up recently, but so? They’re engaged now, and the culture is thriving.
Cardi and Offset began dating earlier this year and started fighting off engagement rumors soon after. Starting over the summer, the rumor mill spun story after story, claiming the hiphop artists were sealing the deal. However, Cardi herself shut the stories down at the VMA Pre-Show this year.
“I’m a woman. Every woman, I think, wants to get married and wants to have children. It’s never too early to get married now. You know, if you want to propose to me, you can,” she told MTV. After the interviewer asked her if she was pressing the issue of marriage, she nonchalantly answered, “I don’t gotta put the pressure, you know what I’m saying? I put it down. Ain’t no pressure, baby!”
When Twitter user hlalalamsaveni tweeted, “Offset and Cardi B just got engaged. On God, if they don’t have a tv special for the wedding and call it ‘Never Let Migo,’ Ima be pissed,” BET took the idea seriously. The television network, known for celebrating black people and black culture, replied to the tweet, saying, “@iamcardib @offsetyrn – #WeGotYou when you ready!”
However, despite Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir’s successful wedding special with BET, the network might not get that deal. Mona Scott herself replied to BET’s tweet, quoting lyrics directly from Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.” “Love ya @BET but #WeGotThis. #AnotherCheckFromMonaScott @VH1 #4evah!” the producer tweeted.
Cardi and Offset have not responded to BET or VH1, so there may not be a wedding special at all. If there is one, who do you think should get the deal? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and SHARE this article!
