Lords never worry?
Lesson learned. Don’t cut A$AP Rocky’s mic if you value that microphone. At a recent performance in Shanghai, the Mob leader smashed his mic after show-runners turned it off at the show.
“F*ck that. Y’all not gonna cut,” Rocky said right before they turned off his mic.
Rocky was on hand to perform at a festival promoting a new app called Innersect. Apparently the headliner ran long and came up against the harsh time limits of the event. Shanghai police cut his mic and the rapper lost it. They had to play “Going Home” eventually, and Rocky should respect that.
The Reddit user who initiallly shared the video explained a bit of what they think is happening.
“This was at a fashion event so not a regular venue. I’m guessing the venue hadn’t pre-approved with the police. Then the police came and didn’t care about who it was and just cut the power. This kind of s**t happens all the time. Police do what they’re told, no excuses. It’s a shame because the hip-hop scene in China is picking up a lot lately and an occurrence like this will give it a bad reputation for touring artists. It was a 3 day festival for some innersect app. Rich Chigga also booked to play. Someone just said on wechat that live music wasn’t allowed after 11pm which is why they cut him off. A$AP Nast has a gig at another venue tonight in Shanghai called Arkham which always goes late, people are expecting Rocky to turn up. Never issues there, Knxwledge played until after 3am last night. Think this venue just messed up with getting authorization.”
New Album Coming?
It’s interesting that Rocky is touring given that it’s been several years since he’s released an album. However, Rocky swears his next effort is on the way and that he’s buckled down to give his fans something new.
And he’s not going to stick to just music for his upcoming rollout.
“I’ve been in the studio, just that, nothing else. Don’t even leave. It’s in my room,” he said in an interview with The London Evening Standard. “[I’ve been] recording my album, staying in my room. Writing video treatments, coming up with campaign plans and marketing plans for my companies, my entities.”
The new album will carry on in the vein of his last, moving away from the syrup-flecked sound of his early work to something a bit spacier. He said:
“This new album is just basically like all my albums: evolved. They’ve been missing me, they’ve been waiting for me, they need some new music, they need some new sounds, new waves, new swag, new everything. And who’s the man you go to for that? Yours truly. So I’m back, like I never left.”
His statements mirror ones he made earlier in the year to Complex.
“It was ahead of its time,” he said of his last album. “That was abnormal then, but in the near future, now in the present, it’s going to be normal, trust me.”
Whatever we hear from Rocky, we should expect it to be weird.
