The city is blowing up, but the music has been flowing for a while

Everyone loves the genre-bending funk of OutKast. They released their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, in 1994, but really took the national stage in 1996 with ATLiens. The duo blew up with their fusion of funk, psychedelia, techno, gospel and rap permeated with an otherworldly southern twang. And by the time Speakerboxxx/The Love Below came out, they had changed the face of hip hop from their modest Atlanta digs.

Now Atlanta has become a mecca of hip-hop. There are tons of famous musicians that you know from the city (though you might not know that they are from ATL), and even more talented emerging artists that you need to hear. So here’s a list of best hip hop from The Big Peach, known and not, that will have you taking a whole new look at the city.
